Lúrio University

Lúrio University (UUL) also known as UniLúrio, is a public university that has managed to establish itself within a very short time and is playing a very important role in Mozambique’s development by providing training opportunities for Mozambique’s youth. It was established by the Government of Mozambique in 2006 in order to expand higher education and research in the country. In its structure UniLúrio has three Poles with 4 campus and 7separated faculties located in the three northern provinces of Mozambique, namely: Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa.

Nampula province: Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Architecture and Physical Planning, Unilurio Business School;
Cabo Delgado province: Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Natural Science;
Niassa province: Faculty of Agriculture;
Mozambique island (Nampula): Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The mission of the university is to ‘educate a new generation of competent professionals committed to development, science and the well-being of local communities’ and its vision is to ‘provide higher education of excellence, quality, competitiveness and international recognition’. UniLúrio offers degree programs in 35 major subjects, enrolling 3.130 total students (2017), including both undergraduate and graduate students. The university is aiming to reach 80% of its faculty lecturers having a master’s degree or higher, and its deal is to have 70% of the lecturers with master’s degree and 30% with doctorates (UniLurio, 2017).
Lúrio University cooperates with universities overseas through bilateral basis, ranging from student mobility, teaching partnership to join research programmes, networks and research collaboration. The university is committed to strengthen international partnership in order to promote a joint initiative for education and research. Thus, under the program ‘’ one student one family’’ UniLúrio signed memorandums with universities overseas where students, lecturers and staffs from both sides had opportunity for academic exchange experience and short and long period training program.
